Precision Medicine Unlocks the Mystery of Hair Loss

In recent years, the term 'precision medicine' has made headlines in both popular press and scientific articles in academic and medical settings. Precision medicine also known as personalized medicine bases its strategies for the prevention and treatment of disease (not symptoms) on individual genetic variability, discovered by evaluating biomarkers inside your blood. This discipline gained momentum in the United States after former President Barack Obama launched a personalized medicine initiative in 2015.

Medical science promises that in the future, it will be possible – after a personal genetic study – to give such a specific treatment that it will work only in the person with the particular genetic configuration assessed.

Precision health means that any ‘treatment’ provided, will be determined solely based on the accurate measurement of each molecule in your individual blood analysis. Furthermore, Precision medicine dictates a ‘narrow’ precise range of the amounts of molecules necessary to perform your cellular functions each at an Optimal Level. Precision Medicine means each ingredient is selected and purified for its exact shape and function, calibrated to your body’s molecular activity. Precision medicine is heavily affected by nutritional choices as food becomes our biochemistry, we are what we eat.

The Connection Between Precision Medicine and Hair Loss

How does this relate to hair loss you might ask? Well Dr Nettles learnt very early in his quest to find a cure for hair loss that hair loss is a symptom (not a disease) and that any attempt to grow hair without treating the underlying cause will not be successful.

Rewinding back to 2010, after 15 years of research, Dr Nettles and his team were already well on their way to the future. Dr Nettles had developed the first test for genetic androgenetic alopecia, that can evaluate each enzyme that impacts the molecules leading to hair loss.  Now, even more importantly, it also directs the ‘precise’ supplementation to repair those underlying genetic causes for each individual.

Let’s take a deeper look into “precisely’ how Precision Medicine “unlocked” the mystery of hair loss.

Individual Genetics

Modern advances in medical technology demonstrate that the underlying cause of most human “cellular” diseases or conditions are derived from imbalances on a much smaller ‘molecular’ level. While “cells” are small, visible only by micro-scopes, each Cell is comprised of billions of even smaller pico-sized “molecules”. A pico-meter is 1000 times smaller than the visible wavelength of light, measured in nano-meters.

Each Cell contains 2-stranded DNA, 1 strand from each of our parents. The DNA inside each Cell provides the ‘recipes’ to make the molecules inside the Cell as well as the cells themselves. “The ‘building’ blocks of these cells come from our choices in Nutrition, we literally are what we eat,” says dR nettles, chief molecular medical scientist of Stop and Regrow, “these DNA ‘recipes’ that dictate how our body turns the food we eat into “us”, comes from our inherited genes in our DNA”

To simplify, knowing that the genome's composition is a unique individual characteristic, precision medicine aims to find specific molecules to enhance or repair the activity of specific molecules inside specific cells, thus improving upon our biochemistry. Epigenetics focuses on improving our genetics.

The Role of Precision Medicine in Determining Hair Loss

Dr Nettles' key research centred around the discovery of optimal ranges of various sub-types of testosterone, which based on their actions within the body he termed good and bad testosterone, similar to the HDL and LDL variants of cholesterol, we commonly know as good and bad cholesterol. Once the underlying biochemical cause was fully understood, and confirmed that these levels were in fact different for each person, Dr Nettles team then turned to precision medicine to perfect his customized formulas to resolve the genetic enzyme deficiencies at the molecular level to both STOP hair loss, reverse the process and REGROW thinning hair.

With the genetic enzyme recipe component resolved, Dr Nettles then turned his attention to fuelling the body with the appropriate ‘building blocks’ that the enhanced DNA recipes will use to rebuild our cells and hair from our food consumption.

To accurately identify and correct all of the precise underlying factors, including both genetic and nutritional deficiencies, contributing to baldness, Dr Nettles developed the Biochemical Report Card, which uses x-rays (1000X smaller than wavelengths of light) to measure the PRECISE levels of each molecule inside our blood. With the BRC, an accurate diagnosis can be made, resulting in curing the underlying cause, thus *removing the condition from our life.

Dr Nettles has now been successfully diagnosing individuals’ biochemistry and crafting precise molecular formulas for treatment of specific identified enzyme deficiencies at the molecular level for more than a decade. The addition of the tests and recommendations for nutritional inputs to the process for the last 5 years have enabled him the breadth of data and results that we now can confidently predict the results you will achieve with his precision medicine hair regrowth program.
